How to Turn a Great Idea Into Billions

The Mark Cuban Pharmacy Story

After listening to a book by Jon Acuff, Do Over, I reached out to authors, politicians, and other “famous” people. I have been surprised by the number of responses I have received.

For most of us, we have the anticipation of, “Why would they care what I think?”

That might be true. But, it may be that we would prefer to avoid the “rejection” perceived by a lack of response rather than take a risk and reach out.

I get it. Most of us have repressed those memories of being turned down for the school dance or by our secret crush.

As Jimmy Buffet once said, “Been there. Done that. Got that t-shirt.”

Now that we’re older and have been rejected a few hundred times, we have to get over the stigma and sting of rejection, even that of the perceived.

Listen, I want that instant hit of dopamine that comes from a reply or a like or a retweet from a “blue checkmark” just as bad as you. But, like the lottery, you have to play to win.

The importance of being willing to make such cold connections was displayed when I read a recent article in Becker’s entitled, Mark Cuban’s pharmacy started with a cold e-mail.
